Somebody has yet to tell me the ol' 'I got a guitar just like yours'. My guitar is in great condition, always ready for play, and built with first quality components. The body is a one-of-a-kind ALL seasoned maple, built and assembled to specifications by Indiana luthier Jim Shenk. He is a Mennonite. Apparently, the maple was from an old beam in old Amish barn. I brought it off the internet from a player living too deep in East Texas not to carry a Telecaster! Let's consider his loss as my gain. ; > )
Surly, I'm the only one in my neighborhood with an axe like mine. Its thin maple neck and ebony fingerboard is a delight to the touch. Tuners are locking Sperzels. The neck and pickups are Carvin manufactured. The pickup toward the neck is a stacked humbucker (single coil size). The middle pickup is also a single coil but a split coil humbucker is placed in the bridge position. The bridge pickup has a coil tap, so it can serve as a single coil or a humbucker: The humbucker sounds rich and creamy like an old Gibson. All electronics are shielded making the guitar very quiet. The tremolo bridge is matched with Graph-Tech saddles with a "tremsetter" installed. I keep this axe safe by straping it with Dunlop Straploks while playing or by storing it in a SKB hardshell case during most other times as pictured.
Evidently mine is one adult-owned-only and well-cared-for instrument. The body is finished in tung oil for easy maintenance. Sometimes, I think it would also be beautiful re-finish in a transparent color. The quality of its neck and fingerboard bestows jazz appeals. This verstaile instrument also plays well blaring through a distortion pedal.
